When testing for detection of the biotic stress powdery mildew, <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Podosphaera aphanis<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, each leaf was analyzed one by one since the disease spread pointwise. The hypothesis suggested that leaves with visible infection would show a deviant fluorescence measurement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Artificial intelligence was used to automatically identify and separate the leaves of a plant in the fluorescence images. Each leaf was then analyzed for deviant fluorescence signals with the goal of using artificial intelligence to classify plants as either healthy or sick.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">&nbsp;<br><br><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Challenges and Future Opportunities<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Although detecting abiotic stress was possible, the chosen method could not prove successful for the early detection of powdery mildew. The probable cause is that powdery mildew doesn\u2019t affect the plants photosynthesis significantly until after many weeks of infection.
