A unique modular LED light for demanding environments
– Intervju with Johan Rubensson, CTO, Heliospectra
โThrough a modular design, we are streamlining our product and supply chain, while enabling us to deliver customised solutions to a wide range of applications.โ
What inspired the development of MITRA X, and how does its modular approach set it apart in the market?ย
The horticulture market is incredibly diverse, with a multitude of unique customer needs.ย When we started developing the MITRA X, we understood that a simple one-size-fits-all solution simply wouldn’t suffice.ย ย
Therefore, we started focusing on a modular platform design, offering our customers and ourselves unparalleled flexibility and customization in meeting customer needs. Our new platform allows us to tailor the spectrum, wattage, hanging configurations, and dynamic light control features to meet the specific requirements of each customer. And thanks toโฏour unique lens or cover with our โOpticGrowProโ technology we can ensure a uniform lightspread across the grow area. At the same time, we streamline our product portfolio and supply chain, benefiting from economies of scale and driving down our production costs.ย ย
By staying true to our Swedish engineering heritage and utilizing top-tier components from A-brands such as Osram, Cree, and Inventronics, we ensure that MITRA X delivers enduring value, performance, and quality, way ahead of our competitors.ย
Can you elaborate on the collaborative efforts across different departments that contributed to the creation of MITRA X?ย
At Heliospectra, collaboration is ingrained in our culture and transcends departmental boundaries. The development of MITRA X was a testament to this, with teams across helioCARE, sales, engineering, crop expertise and supply chain seamlessly working together.ย
This allows us to leverage diverse perspectives and expertise, ensuring that MITRA X addresses the technical and crop-specific needs of our customers โ from installation to harvest โ while upholding our commitment to innovation and quality.ย
ย
What challenges did the R&D team face during the development process, and how were they overcome?ย
The development of MITRA X was a challenging process, particularly in terms of navigating the demanding greenhouse environment and balancing factors such as cost, flexibility and performance. Understanding the intricacies of our customer’s operations and integrating our technology with existing automation systems were pivotal hurdles. Also, by approaching an international market, we were faced with a number of certification requirements and processes that placed specific demands on our solution. Thanks to our strong focus on quality components and continuous third-party testing, these were demands we were well aware of and were able to work around. ย
Additionally, time constraints forced us to prioritize features and limit our modular solution to ensure a timely product launch. However, by prioritizing customer-centric innovation and fostering internal alignment, we supplied our target segments with a robust solution and established a foundation for future advancements.ย
With Heliospectra‘s new modular approach, how do you foresee it impacting the scalability and customization options for customers?ย
The modular architecture of Heliospectra creates new possibilities for scalability and customization for our customers and creates a more efficient solution offer for us. By offering a diverse spectrum portfolio and flexible configuration options, we empower growers to adapt their lighting installations to varying environments and crop requirements as they scale their lighting investments. ย
Moreover, the seamless integration with our helioCORE system, including the innovative Adelphi wireless platform, ensures effortless scalability and retrofitting capabilities. Our customers can easily integrate different types of MITRA X configurations and spectrum into the same system, as well as our other solutions such as our fully controllable ELIXIA and DYNA. Further, customers who didnโt initially choose wireless dimming in the beginning can easily add this at a later stage. This not only enhances operational efficiency, but also enables our growers to future-proof their investments and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the dynamic agricultural landscape.ย
How does MITRA X align with Heliospectra’s long-term vision for innovation and meeting customer needs in the agricultural technology sector?ย
MITRA X is a perfect example of our commitment to sustainable and connected crop production and aligns seamlessly with our long-term vision for innovation. By leveraging cutting-edge LED technology, MITRA X enables significant energy savings of up to 40% compared to traditional lighting solutions, driving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness for growers.ย ย
Furthermore, the integration of helioCORE with MITRA X facilitates smart light management, optimizing resource utilization by minimizing energy consumption by up to 35%, decreasing waste, and maximizing crop yields. This holistic approach not only underscores our dedication to meeting customer needs, but also positions Heliospectra as a leader in smart lighting solutions and a driver for sustainable and transformative change in the agricultural technology sector.ย
